Xyaat Maya Community Ecotourism
Señor, Quintana Roo

THE TERRITORY

Living Mayan culture, community-centered nature, and sacred trails in the heart of the Mayan Region.

Xyaat is part of a community tourism network that brings together indigenous communities in Quintana Roo to share authentic experiences of culture and nature. From the community of Señor, your hosts open the doors to a more intimate, respectful, and supportive way of traveling: walking through the cornfield, learning from the elders, exploring traditional medicine, sampling local cuisine, discovering henequen, birdwatching, and understanding why Mayan culture remains alive in everyday life.

Visiting Xyaat means entering a living Mayan community with respect. Here, every tour connects with real-life daily practices: the cornfield, cooking, stories of the Caste War, melipona bees, traditional medicine, henequen production, the wisdom of the elders, and birdwatching.

What does “Caminos Sagrados” offer during the off-season?

Xyaat offers activities that change with the rhythms of the community and nature: the Mayan cornfield yields different fruits, seeds, and foods depending on the time of year; birdwatching varies according to the species present in each season; and traditional cuisine adapts to the ingredients available. That’s why every visit to Señor can feel different: there’s always something new to learn, try, and discover.

YOUR HOSTS

The community of Señor

Your hosts in Xyaat are Mayan families from Señor who have opened their homes, trails, and knowledge to share a living culture with those who visit Maya Ka’an. With a history spanning more than two decades, the cooperative brings together local guides, grandmothers, cooks, artisans, and people knowledgeable about the cornfield, traditional medicine, henequen, and community stories. Each experience is an invitation to listen, learn, and walk respectfully alongside those who preserve, practice, and pass on the Mayan legacy through their daily lives.
